MEAT KATIE 'SESSIONS' RELEASE AND TOUR

Meat Katie, one of Australia's favourite imports is currently preparing for the release of his Ministry Of Sound 'Sessions' double disc. Always a crowd favourite, the man other wise known as Mark Pember will also be doing shows across Australia on the back of the release during August.

'Sessions', one of the world's foremost DJ compilation series has hosted dance music heavyweights such as Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak and Josh Wink. This time tech-funk legend Meat Katie is taking over the controls for the latest instalment in the series. Meat Katie, has an enviable CV as both DJ and producer; from his early days recording for legendary labels such as Wall of Sound, R&S and Kingsize to the running of his own impeccable Lot49 imprint through to his incessant touring of the world playing festivals, tours and clubs on every continent – quality is the theme.

Giving an insight into the mind of Meat Katie, his 'Sessions ' compilation is a collection of music merged together that says as much about his wide ranging love of electronic music as his distinctive DJ'ing style. To those who may have misguidedly thought of Meat Katie as a straight up tech breaks DJ, this is a wake up call as the man shows that dance music doesn't need to live in the pigeon holes it is often saddled with.

In theme with his 'Sessions' mix, his DJ show will take us on a journey into the deep and dirty underbelly of techno, breaks and tech-inspired house,  and with a history of compiling outstanding DJ mixes for some of the biggest names in dance music such as Fabric Live and Bedrock it seems that Meat Katie may have just reached a new high with what is almost certainly his most impressive and adventurous album to date.

Get your dancing shoes out and prepare for a hot and sweaty session with Meat Katie, one of the dons of the dance floor.

John 00 Fleming will be returning to Brisbane on the 28th June to headline at one of Brisbane's best loved venues with well known crew Ampt Productions.

AMPT Productions are extremely proud to be able to announce and confirm that they'll be the lucky ones playing host to John 00 Fleming on June 28th at The Step Inn...

Regardless of your musical preferences, this is one act that you don't wanna miss. To label John 00 Fleming a 'trance' dj is a serious understatement. Although producing work for mainstream commercial brands such as Gate-Crasher, Ministry of Sound and God's Kitchen, his unique, progressive style has always had a strong following in the underground psytrance arena and a nod of approval from the global dance music community in general. Not many djs can say they've maintained a harmonious middle ground quite like J00F.
This tour is to celebrate his latest release, a three disc progressive psy compilation featuring the likes of Wizzy Noise, Freq, Vibrasphere and Astral Projection (to name but a few).

With support from the likes of CY, JT Effect, Scott Walker & Dave Basek with still much much more to be announced, this is shaping up to be a very big night in June.

Few people can claim to have been at the pinnacle of their profession for a sustained period of time, having enjoyed so much success and still be leading the way forward. John 00 Fleming, one of the dance music industries most revered personalities, is amongst a small band of people who can say they were responsible for igniting the spark of the scene we all know and love today. As one of the originators of the trance sound as we know it John's productions on the legendary React label set the world ablaze- especially the iconic release Lost In Emotion. Today John continues to push the boundaries in new directions thanks largely to his newfound love for psy!

This will be a unique opportunity to see the main-man ripping it up at a local Brissie night as he's the sort of artist you usually see topping the bill on major international events!

Early birds have already SOLD OUT, 2nd release tickers are available now from Oztix ,  Gooble Warming , and all good record stores.

Ampt Productions Interview Questions for John 00 Fleming

Having a strong influence in both the Goa/psychedelic music  scene, and playing for major dance labels like Gatecrasher, and Ministry of Sound – do you have a preference? Or do you love them both?

I enjoy both scenes. Recently Gatecrasher has become a superb brand, both their club nights and events have been awesome, they seem to attract a serious bunch of clubbers. However, the Psy scene allows me to express myself musically, I can pretty much play what I want and they respect you for this. The regular Trance scene seems to constantly want the candy thrown at them??

Can you tell us a bit about your radio program, Global Trance Grooves?

I've been doing this for the past 4 years on DI FM and Ministry of Sound network. Eventually we have also made it a Podcast. Yes I know it took us long enough! I do my show monthly as I'm not worried about a weekly show, I don’t think I could find the music to make a weekly show anyway! Each month I have a non-obvious guest mix from various countries to expose Trance from around the world, hence the name; Global Trance Grooves. My show gets broadcast the second Tuesday of every month (7pm GMT) www.di.fm and is on Ministry of Sound network prime time Saturday night the 3rd Saturday of every month.

What is the most rewarding part about hosting a radio program?

Being able to play music that I really want. As I mentioned earlier, today’s climate in clubs, they seem to want the candy thrown at them, meaning I hardly every get a chance to play the music that I really love, my radio show allows me to do this. I also love exposing unknown/new DJ's by offering them guest mixes on my show.

J00F Records and Radio has become a great platform for upcoming artists to get exposure. Do you have any plans for expanding upon the J00F brand?

As we speak JOOF has been expanding. I’ve always wanted to have my own agency, only last month JOOF Artist Management (JAM) was born. Not only are we looking after our own artists but offering JOOF tour nights. We launched the JOOF nights at The Gallery in London, and have a JOOF weekend at Digital Newcastle and Brighton lined up for June along with an Australia tour. So things are starting to roll!

Do you plan to come to Oz with Digital Blonde anytime soon (if he overcomes his fear of flying)?

I sat Mr. Blonde down and had a serious pet chat with him, I explained that there are positives to flying, one being that we have 20 hours to make music on our laptops while flying, and I think that could have been the deal cruncher. Hopefully near the end of the year he'll make it over and we'll do our live set.

How are you finding the live experience? What challenges do you face when playing live as a duo?

Ricky (Blonde) and I seem to have this natural partnership while playing live. We have taken our own roles, Ricky is a genius on the keyboards while I concentrate on the technical side of things. Serious communication is needed though as we change the set as we go along, constantly watching the dance floor. We rearrange the tracks as we go along, if the crowd are not feeling longer breakdowns, we'll take them out! It’s a lot of hard work, but worth it.

How do you organize your time between 00.db and your independent DJ work?

It’s been very hard work trying to juggle the two. The 00.db albums have taken priority over the past year. Euphoria is now out the way, and the second album deal is now signed and sealed, meaning part two will be released in June. So I've been nonstop in the studio in-between touring, I've had hardly any spare time to myself.

Do you see yourself making the move to digital, instead of using vinyl or CD's? What is your approach to new technology?

Digital has so many benefits, but has just as many flaws. I tried the laptop thing and it causes far to much hassle when turning up at a club. It takes a while setting things up, rewiring the DJ mixer and setting up sound card etc. Then you have to worry about if the laptop will overheat if you’re at an outdoor event in the heat or hot sweaty club. It stressed me for a good chunk of my set. The trusty Pioneer CDJ’s are like tanks, they simply work with anything thrown at them. Once we see USB ports on these machines, then I think we have our solution, I then see the end of laptop DJs.

Having sold over 3million compilations, what do you look for when selecting tracks?

Tracks that others haven’t used! It then keeps the album fresh and original for years to come.

What was your approach to putting together the Euphoria psytrance compilation album?

To expose this special scene to the regular Trance world. I was treading carefully making sure thing didn’t go too full-on as not to scare people, it was a gentle introduction.

Was it hard to get a proper representation and full spectrum of psy squeezed into 3 discs?

There a huge world out there under the Psytrance banner that covers chill out, breaks, prog, trance all the way to full-on, so - yes trying to cover all that was hard work. I also wanted to represent my own take on Psy, after all this is what I play when I DJ. Like all genres of music, there are certain styles that we don’t like and obviously I have left them out, as I said before this is an introduction to the Psy world, once you're inside you can explore the rest yourselves.

Who would you say your biggest musical influence would be? Why?

Jean Michelle Jarre, he is the king of synths and invented Trance way back in the 70's. I still love him today!

You started your DJ career at a very early age, did you always want to be a musician – or did you have other ambitions as well?

My two passions are music and cars. I wanted to be a car designer, so the two were alongside each other until my music took priority. I went to college to learn about automobile engineering, so that I would have an understanding of cars in order to design them, and that’s as far as I got! Still today I love cars, and that has become a hobby on the side.

How would you say your style has progressed over the years?

It’s always had a dusting of Trance no matter what direction I go in. I was happier when I was able to play deeper and darker, but that’s impossible in the current climate of hands in the air clubs.

Where do you see your music progressing these days?

I hope to go back a little deeper in the next couple of years, I really miss playing like that. It was more of a challenge and needed more skill as a DJ to play like this, lifting the crowd without the use of anthem-like tunes. Lets hope the climate changes to allow this.

What would you say is your biggest musical achievement?

Selling 3 million compilations, damn that’s a lot!!!

What do you like to do when you’re not making music?

Sleep! I’m not kidding, I'm constantly working traveling or flying so the luxury of a lie-in in my own bed is a treat. I also love tinkering with my car, simply cleaning it gives me great pleasure and pride :)
